FREE PLAY Free Play is a collaboration of artists and designers from different disciplines based on the opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. Instead of an orchestra, the electronic musician Sveinbjörn Thorarensen (aka Hermigervill) creates a soundscape together with soprano Hrafnhildur Árnadóttir. The performance is around 50 minutes and set and costume design, created with designer Þórunn María Jónsdóttir, forms an installation.
The title Free Play refers to the protagonist, Violetta’s famous aria Sempre Libera, or Always Free where she sings about her desire to live joyful and free of worry or commitments. The words; Free Play, can also be found in the center of the card one plays with during the regular bingo nights in Vinabær – the location of the performance.
